Mission KE5 Reaction Mechanisms

Mission KE5 requires that students understand and use terms associated with reaction mechanisms, such as elementary steps, intermediates, catalysts, and rate determining steps. The mission consists of 32 questions organized into 8 Question Groups.

• The student should be able to analyze a proposed mechanism, identifying the elementary steps, the intermediates, a catalyst (if present), and the overall chemical equation.
• The student should be able to match a proposed reaction mechanism to a rate equation when given the rate determining step.
