Physics Classroom is making strides to make our site accessible to everyone, and features many accessibility features.

Our site contains 6 navigation areas. The Primary, Secondary, and Page Level navigations have a screen reader version of their nav structure that allows using the left and right keys to navigate sibling navigation items, and up or down keys to navigate parent or child navigation items. The others can be navigated using tabs.

Within the main content, we leverage headers to provide in page or in tool navigation.

Although we are still rebuilding our content to leverage these tools, our images should have both short and verbose descriptions, the later describing in great detail the image for those who cannot see. Any formulas found within the images are often in the image figure below the image.

Equations and formulas are rendered using MathJax, which has both verbal, braille (including nemath braille), and keyboard navigation within them. Learn how to configure and leverage this for various screen readers on our Equation Navigation Page.

While not every area of Physics Classroom is usable purely from keyboard and screen reader, we are committed to continue work on making this possible. If you have questions or need additional help, please use this link to contact us .

Static Electricity

Photos from The Physics Classroom's Flickr Group

Lesson 1: Basic Terminology and Concepts

Lesson 1 discusses charge interactions, the distinction between conductors and insulators and polarization. Items in the group's pool include photos of statically charged hair, Wimshurst machines, charged balloons interacting with each other, Leyden jars, and much more. Photos complement many of the discussions from Lesson 1 of the Static Electricity chapter of The Physics Classroom Tutorial.

Lesson 2: Methods of Charging

Lesson 2 discusses the principles associated with the charging of objects and the process of grounding objects.Items in the group's pool include photos of Tesla coils, Wimshurst generators, Van de Graaff generators, electrophorus plates, and much more. Photos complement many of the discussions from Lesson 2 of the Static Electricity chapter of The Physics Classroom Tutorial.

Lesson 3: Electric Force

Lesson 3 discusses the conceptual and mathematical nature of Coulomb's law of force. As of this writing, there are very few photos on the topic. Teachers and students are encouraged to combine their cameras and creative juices to help contribute to the pool.

Lesson 4: Electric Fields

Lesson 4 discusses the concept and mathematics of electric fields. Electric field lines are discussed and illustrated; applications are made to the topic of lightning and lightning discharges. Items in the group's pool include photos of lightning strikes, Tesla coil discharges, lightning rods, and electric and magnetic field lines produced by charges and magnets. Photos complement many of the discussions from Lesson 4 of the Static Electricity chapter of The Physics Classroom Tutorial.
