Physics Classroom is making strides to make our site accessible to everyone, and features many accessibility features.

Our site contains 6 navigation areas. The Primary, Secondary, and Page Level navigations have a screen reader version of their nav structure that allows using the left and right keys to navigate sibling navigation items, and up or down keys to navigate parent or child navigation items. The others can be navigated using tabs.

Within the main content, we leverage headers to provide in page or in tool navigation.

Although we are still rebuilding our content to leverage these tools, our images should have both short and verbose descriptions, the later describing in great detail the image for those who cannot see. Any formulas found within the images are often in the image figure below the image.

Equations and formulas are rendered using MathJax, which has both verbal, braille (including nemath braille), and keyboard navigation within them. Learn how to configure and leverage this for various screen readers on our Equation Navigation Page.

The Specular Reflection Gallery features some fabulous photos of the formation of images by non-mirror surfaces such as calm lakes and rivers, lacquered floors, and water puddles. The photos and associated descriptions tell the story of specular reflection and the manner by which images are formed. This gallery coordinates with many of the concepts discussed in Lessons 1 and 2 of the Reflection and the Ray Model of Light chapter of The Physics Classroom Tutorial.

Lesson 1: Reflection and Its Importance

Lesson 1 discusses the role of light to vision, the principle of the line of sight method of locating images, the law of reflection and the distinction between specular and diffuse reflection. Items in the group's pool include breathtaking photos of specular reflection and several other reflection phenomena such as the reflection of laser light, the use of periscopes, and much more. Lesson 2: Image Formation in Plane Mirrors

Lesson 2 discusses why an image is formed, the characteristics of images formed by plane mirrors and multiple mirror systems and the use of ray diagrams to predict the location of images and the manner by which light travels from an object to they eye when viewing an image. Items in the group's pool include photos of periscopes, kaleidoscopes, multiple mirror systems, the reflection of laser light by mirrors, and much more. Photos complement many of the discussions from Lesson 2 of the Reflection and the Ray Model of Light chapter of The Physics Classroom Tutorial.

Lesson 3: Concave Mirrors

Lesson 3 discusses the anatomy of a curved mirror and the formation of images by concave mirrors. The use of ray diagrams and the mirror equation to identify the characteristics of such images is emphasized. Items in the group's pool include photos of images formed by various mirrors (concave, convex, and funhouse mirrors), radio telescope dishes, and much more.
